Ubie receives $19M more in Series C funding

Japanese health tech startup Ubie has snapped up $19 million more in an extended Series C funding round.

The round was joined by Sogo Medical Co., AAIC Investment, Japan Impact Investment II Limited Partnership, Rakuten Capital, Shoko Chukin Bank, Japan Finance Corporation, and Mizuho Bank.

This adds to the $26 million raised in its first Series C round in August, which now totals $45 million. To date, the company received $76 million in funding.

According to a press release, its fresh funds will be used to accelerate its growth and presence in the United States.

In April, Ubie announced its expansion to the US market with its AI symptom checker app. It comes with customised AI algorithms that take into account local disease trends and other regional characteristics.

Following its initial Series C round, the company used the proceeds to set up a local subsidiary in New York in October. It has become its second overseas location following Singapore.

Meanwhile, the company recently appointed Ryusuke Shigetomi, chairman and representative director of Blackstone Group Japan, to its board as an outside director.
